Finding Beauty Everywhere

I love to find beauty in unexpected places...and I'm never disappointed.

We, you and I, just have to take the time to look. It's Everywhere!!

My Photo
Name:
Location: Ohio, United States

I'm interested in all living things which means All Things. There is beauty everywhere. We just have to slow down enough to find it...to see it. I believe there is nothing Man can do to match the beauty found in Nature...and not only the beauty. Nature can outdo anything man can think of in the way of destruction too. Man is very small, the works of man are very small. We need to remember this. But Nature never sends its force after anything or anyone out of anger or hatred or desire to conquer or own. Nature has many lessons for us all.

Our New Home

You've seen the garden, here's the house...Our New Home. As seen from the little red boat that Gooserock and I sail around here in. It's the square green one near the center of the photo.

I think, if it doesn't prove too boring, I'll start a blow by blow account of how we'll be doing improvements.

What do you think?

Big Announcement!

We get to keep my "favorite view"!!

After 3 months of a roller coaster ride of "We can do it. No, we can't. Yes, we can." over and over again we figured a way to purchase the house we've been renting for almost 3 years. It's where "my favorite view" lives.

One of the most interesting things is that now that the house is "ours", it feels entirely different to both Gooserock and me. We've lived in it nearly 3 years, why should it feel so different? Don't know, but it's really cool.

First thing I did was to expand my little 5'x7' perennial bed. That was as much as I wanted to plant in a rented house. So now I've expanded it to 5'x10' or so. I bought 10 new plants and true to my self-designation of "gardener" I had to move 5 of the original ones and need to move 3 more. I have a friend who once said, "No gardner is worth his/her salt who doesn't move the plants around"

Anyhow, here's a picture of my newly expanded border with "the view" in the background. BTW, my garden is sandwiched between the driveways.

Dried Flowers and Seed Heads

Here's a rather simple sample of one of my dried flower arrangements. I didn't have much to work with but it's not too bad. It contains crocosmia, poppy, teasel, iris and a couple kinds of grasses seed heads, plus small dried cedar branches, goldenrod and small sunflower flowers, and dried crocosmia leaf spears. Oh, yes, there are white wooden tulips also. This arrangement is about 3 years old and looks better face to face, or should I say, face to flower. :-)

08-04-06 addendum: I just remembered, the dark red-brown smooth leaves in the arrangement are salal. They are dark green and glossy when fresh and dry to a very nice color and keep their shine.

Have fun experimenting with dried seed heads and flowers and weeds.
